| Madagascan tree boas (Sanzinia madagascariensis) |
|
The Madagascan tree boa is a truly special boid. Without exception, any owner that I have met so far was enthusiastic about this species. Breeding is not that easy, but the nature and behavior of these calm snakes is really quiet fascinating. This species lives in Madagascar and becomes about 2 m long, depending on the origin and sex. Some animals even stay not longer than 150 cm. There are several natural color morphs. I take care of green animals with strong black head drawing. They are virtually "unaggressive” animals that have never snapped at me. Food is usually more "taken" then "captured". As all the other animals in my stock, the Madagascan tree boas get no live rodents. The husbandry proves to be totally without problems so far. I hope to be able to try breeding in a year or two for the first time. Madagascan tree boas are subject to the provisions of the CITES Appendix I.
